GYR is helping collect items for storm relief in Texas. We are helping to collect the following items for storm relief:

The Georgia Young Republicans issued the following statement into the naming history of Chairman Robert Lee:

We would like to begin by thanking everyone who has expressed concern to GYR that our Chairman is named Robert Lee. During a political environment where hyper-partisanship makes it difficult to discuss important issues about current events and our history as a country, we know that resolving this issue within our organization was paramount in making a statement about what our organization really stands for.

Our investigation has revealed that his name “Robert Lee” is actually a shortened version of his full name, Robert Wade Lee II, having been named after his father and not a confederate general. Also, our investigation revealed that he was born in Cheyenne, WY and celebrates such local heroes as Chris Ledoux and mourns the loss of such historic American figures as Lane Frost.

Our investigation did turn up a number of things we found offensive and worthy of criticism. He apparently is not a fan of any Atlanta based team except the Atlanta United which he says is his favorite Georgia football team; we know in reality football involves quarterbacks handing the ball to running backs to carry and throwing to receivers to catch. He’s also called a number of board meetings at evening hours held over conference call. Of course, he’s also refused to get a haircut and we find his curly hair unruly.

At this time, we have not found enough offense in his name to warrant his removal according to our internal procedures. His other offenses may prove his undoing.

At the recent YRNF Convention in Annapolis, GYR once again brought home some hardware for the work we are doing as an organization. This year, GYR was recognized as having the best YR social media presence in the nation. In the past year, GYR has seen:

– Facebook reach was 243,932 with 19,986 engagements;
– Twitter reach was 59,511 and 1,416 engagements;
– Instagram reach was 5,206 and 605 engagements.
– Although Snapchat statistics are harder to collect, GYR utilized paid Geofilters for selected events. Our estimated impressions were approximately 5,700,
129 uses, and a usage rate of about 23%.

The content we created was engaging and unique. This also included regular contributions from our chapters’ social media profiles, too, highlighting their efforts. In the past two years, GYR has demonstrated excellence digitally (2016 Best Website, 2017 Best Social Media) and operationally (2016 Best State Federation). Thank you to everyone who is a part of these efforts and the tremendous success we’ve had!

Chairman Robert Lee issued the following statement regarding the resignation of Prisca Villa as Treasurer of the Georgia Young Republicans:

“For the last four years, the Georgia Young Republicans were privileged to have Prisca Villa as part of the our leadership team. Thanks to her, the direction of GYR continued on a strong path towards future growth. We couldn’t have done it without her.

“While all of us are sad to see her depart the organization, we couldn’t be happier she made that decision. As she and her husband Juan prepare to welcome little Villa, we all pray she remembers she’s always part of our family – always has been, always will be.”

It’s Thursday, so we’re deciding to have a little fun here. We’ve listed all our chapters and the GIFs that best describe each. You see, here in GYR we line them up, we knock them down. As the current Best State Federation in the YRNF, we just run our business…well, like a business. We line em’ up, we knock em’ down, and we keep going. It’s just how we do.

By the way, if you’re interested in finding a chapter to call home, you can always check out our GYR Futures page and search anywhere in the state.
